Vault and Daylight Savings Time

Post by lbauer » Wed Feb 21, 2007 5:47 pm

Vault usually is not affected by Daylight Savings time.

Vault stores modification times as UTC in its state files, and converts them to local time for comparison. Vault 3.x also offers support for CRCs, which will supersede filesystem modification time checks when enabled. If you do see renegade files after switching to Daylight Savings time, you can enable CRC's in the Vault GUI Client under Tools->Options->Local Files->Detect modified files using CRC's instead of modification times.

On a related note, because different versions of the .NET Framework store time differently, for best results, Vault clients and servers should use the same version of the .NET Framework.

Note: The date change for Daylight Savings Time might affect operating systems that have not been updated with Windows updates. If the operating system does not switch to to the correct time for Daylight Savings time, Vault local file times will reflect the incorrect machine time.
