SourceGear has to be very careful about responding to questions like this one. I've lost count of the number of times we've signed NDAs with Microsoft. Asking us questions about Microsoft is a good way to get vague, content-free answers like the following: SourceGear is a member of the Visual Studio...

I see where you're coming from. I like building databases which store a history that's a long as possible. This is why we're an Oracle shop, and the only exception to this rule is Vault (by the way, when is an Oracle version coming? :-) ). By the way, you can see just how much we like Vault, we bro...

Re: Thanks for the suggestions...
Thanks for the great suggestions. I'll see which options fit us better. As for the labeling, checking in/out, etc... What happens with Vault a year or two from now when we have a bunch of labels/branches/log entries, etc...? Is there a way to "trim" smoe of the activity? For example, Is t...

Re: single user upgrade question
In the knowledge base forum Eric said the following "In fact, please be aware that this freebie license will disappear as soon as you add any serial numbers to your server. For example, suppose you start using Vault free of charge as a single user. Later, you decide you need to expand your Vau...

Re: Diff on Vault 2.0 Not Working on Some Files
For some reason when looking at the diff between two files, it comes up cryptic, almost like it is binary. We tried other text files of the same type/extension and they don't have the issue. Any suggestions? Well, I hate to give the dumb obvious answer, but: Any chance the file is binary? :D If you...

Re: web client
How do I access the web client from my browser? This should be easier to find. Very soon it will be. Basically, the URL is this: http://yourserver/VaultService/VaultWeb/login.aspx For example, you can see the client in action on our public Vault server: http://vaultpub.sourcegear.com/VaultSer...

I am unsure about some fundamentals, for example, when is it time to do a check-in? When a feature is finished, or at the end of the day when your source compiles but does not yet work right? Or am I totally off-base and I should check in every half hour? In a couple weeks we'll introduce more prog...

First of all, why do you say the following? Vault does not like the source code to be in a directory different than the solution/project files Vault doesn't care where you place things. Visual Studio gets fussy sometimes, but you can route around that particular outage by fiddling with Visual Studio...

Re: Next Version of Vault
What's in store for the next major version of Vault? I promise not to hold you to anything you say... OK, let's see if I can offer a more constructive response. We haven't announced anything, nothing here is official. We're mostly still drowning in tech support from the deluge of people interested ...

I tried at great lengths to reproduce the problem and could never make it happen. If we could reproduce it, we'd obviously like to fix it. That's another problem, we've got 5 developers here. Three of us have seen this problem intermittently and in no apparent pattern. It's terribly annoying. We'll...

Re: Command line example?
Hello, I'd like to create a batch file to traverse a directory and add all the .cpp and .h files to Vault. Could someone give me an example of the vault command line, specifically what the repositoryfolder and localpath params would look like? TIA. I'm not sure the cmdline client is the way to do t...

Re: Next Version of Vault
Really? In that case, our current plan for the next version of Vault is to rewrite the entire product in Forth using a curses-based UI.andrew00 wrote:I promise not to hold you to anything you say...

Okay, I'll check. But wouldn't it make more sense for performance if we directly connected to the SQL Server instead of via a web service? Just wish I didn't have to go through IIS / Web Services to get to my data that's essentially local to my dev computer (via internal LAN). I assume we just chan...

Folder security is/was not checked. OK. In some cases, Vault is faster than VSS. In other cases, it is slower. It looks possible that your usage falls into the latter category. There is another thing or two you could check: Make sure your Vault server is configured NOT to do reverse DNS lookups. On...
