Re: Fresh installation, can't connect to item tracking web svc

kgchang - please email me the log files directly using the email button on the side of this post. This may be easier to troubleshoot via email rather than through the forum.

Re: Fresh installation, can't connect to item tracking web svc

kgchang - I think you may be having a different problem than Jeff.s since it looks like the server can't be found at all. If you go to http://<servername>/VaultService/VaultService.asmx in a web browser do you see a web page or do you get an error? What about if you go to http://<servername>/VaultSe...

Re: Fresh installation, can't connect to item tracking web svc

It may be helpful if you can send me the fortress_install.log located in your %temp% directory so I can see if there was any weirdness or errors during the install process. Make sure that the "machine key" values are identical in the web.config files in both the Fortress and VaultService f...

Re: ERROR: The system cannot find the file specified during inst

Do you have both VS2005 and VS2008 on the machine? We have seen this error occur when VS2005 or VS2008 is uninstalled from the system and the registry paths aren't cleaned up so the installer thinks that VS is still installed. Does Devenv.exe exist at the following locations? VS2005 path is: C:\Prog...

I just set up an XP VM with your date and time settings and the installer worked fine (for both an upgrade from 4.1.0 and an new install) so I don't think your date time format is the issue. Is there any more information logged about the error in the event viewer? That part of the installer code was...

You should try installing 4.1.2 instead of 4.1.1. There was fix in 4.1.2 for occasional upgrades failing due to "Vault db in single-user mode". Here are the 4.1.2 release notes: http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=10343 You can download 4.1.2 from here: http://www.sourcegear.com/...

It may be that you don't have VBScript enabled on the machine. SetDate uses VBscript.

Open a command prompt then cd to wherever vbscript is on your machine. Usually it is %windir%\System32. Then run regsvr32 vbscript.dll.

cd %windir%\System32

regsvr32 vbscript.dll

Can you send or post your Vault_client_install.log file in your %temp% directory?

What was happening with andrews was he had uninstalled a version of VS and VS didn't clean up the registry so in the registry it was as if VS was still installed.

Glad to hear you got the client installed.

The next version of Vault/Fortress will have some more checks in the client installer to verify that VS2005 and/or VS2008 is actually installed so *hopefully* people won't run into this issue in the future.

Have you tried this?
We've had a reports that deleting the windows user and re-adding it (or creating a new user with admin rights) fixed some install problems for other users who have/had the 3.5 Framework installed.

See the following thread:

It is failing when trying to run Devenv /setup. The only place in the code where it would log the error "Devenv setup failed: Access is denied" is the case where Devenv setup throws an exception. I did that a couple of days ago and didn't get any errors I am not sure which suggestion you a...

What OS are you trying to install on?

If you run devenv.exe /setup from a command line do you get the same error?

Try re-installing the 2.0 framework on that machine just encase something got messed up with the .NET framework 3.5 install/uninstall then try the client installer again.
