You might try turning off intraline highlighting and see if that speeds things up for you.
You can do this via the Options dialog.

ignoring by column
Ignoring by column didn't make into DiffMerge 3.0. Sorry. The previous versions didn't have it either. You might be able to get a regex cover only the 7-72 area, but I'm not sure that that will do what you want. That is, marking various columns 'unimportant' is different than 'exclude from analysis'...

you can double click on the files
when there are 2 files or subfolders on a line you CAN double click
on them to open a new file or folder window.
if there is only 1 file or folder on the line, double clicking doesn't
do anything.

this is a UTF8 issue
it looks like DiffMerge loaded the file assuming a latin-n character encoding when it appears that the file is utf-8. the 2 characters displayed in the screenshot are a UTF8 multi-byte sequence for an accented character. using the new version of DiffMerge, check the Ruleset (via the Options dialog) ...
