Performance Impact of Number of Files
In this other thread Jeremy made a comment about areas of performance that are impacted by the number of files. Since this is really a different subject than the main point over there, I thought I'd start a new thread to ask follow-up questions. Are there recommended guidelines regarding repository ...

Re: Cloak or Other Inactive Indicator
Thanks for the ideas Jeremy. I realized as I read your suggestions, that there are perhaps two categories of old branches. One is "so old that looking back at it would be nearly meaningless" and deleting those is a good solution. The other is "old, but I may still want to look at some...

Re: Why is Recursive greyed out when doing Check-out...
Lodani, I wouldn't let this influence your decision much. We have been using Fortress (and Vault/Dragnet before it) for a couple of years and we love the products, and have always found the support at SourceGear (the FEW times we have needed it) to be exceptional! And if you're comparing it to Micro...

Re: Need Advice on Merging Code
Thanks again, Linda! And regarding: One thing to avoid, is merging changes that have already been applied in a previous merge. So you may want to keep a list of what changes have already been applied to the merge target. This I definitely do. I ran into trouble one time in the beginning, I suspect b...

Re: Cloak or Other Inactive Indicator
OK, thanks. I didn't realize that cloak was user-specific. That's good to know. As a follow-up, if I rename the folder, and then later someone is browsing the Item tracking notes, if they click on the file link that is added to the comment during check-in (when linking check-ins to Items) is the sys...

Re: Need Advice on Merging Code
Thanks, Linda, for the response. It sounds from the way you worded it, that all of those approaches (branch-branch, trunk-branch, etc.) are equal. Is that true, or is there one that works better with the merge tool than the others? I just want to double-check because I have had some troubles in the p...

Cloak or Other Inactive Indicator
We have numerous top-level folders spread across a half-dozen repositories. Several of those top-level folders represent application code that is no longer maintained (typically the application has been retired). I also have several sub-folders of active top-level folders, that contain code that is ...

Need Advice on Merging Code
We are on Fortress 1.0.6.15954. I have three active legs of code and could really use some advice on how to pull this all back together. Here's the history: We were developing in TRUNK and got to the point where we were cutting a release. We made a branch named 6.0 from the TRUNK to be used for any ...

Show Full Name instead of Login
We're still on Fortress 1.0.6.15954, so maybe this has already been addressed, but if not... Would you consider changing the dropdown lists like Assignee and Resolver to display the users' Full Name instead of their Login?

Re: Unable to check-in linked files
Just throwing out an idea to consider... The way that we handle common files in a similar structure the one DetroitJ showed is to use the Share feature within Fortress and effectively put a copy of the common files under each solution that needs them. This way we can do a GLV on just one solution an...

Re: A Few Feature Requests
Please add my vote for the ability to delete attachments, with with the additional feature of this being restricted to members of Global:Admin. I don't necessarily want anyone in the system to be able to delete attachments, because they may be very valuable information, but it would be a handy featu...

Re: Admin Web Client Login
Just another idea that worked for us... Create a special DNS name. We have servers with _ in their names, but we created a special DNS entry just for our Fortress installation and we use that instead. It would probably also work with a local Hosts file entry as well, but DNS gives us broader usage.

Re: DB move from 2008 to 2005
I know this is late in coming, and Rubikcube is probably well past needing an answer, but thought I'd throw out this idea for anyone facing a similar scenario... I am reluctant to espouse the use of another company's products one company's support forum, so let me just put it this way... There are S...

Re: Required Work Item(Bug ID) allows invalid IDs
Add my vote on this feature request. I just recently found out that one of my (soon-to-be-former) developers was doing the same thing. Particularly frustrating when the comment left was "*". Grrrr!

Nevermind...
Nevermind... I think I tricked myself. While extracting the information that you (Jeff) requested, I ran one more test and discovered that what probably happened was that I was looking at the Reference View at the time that I noticed this and got confused. Unfortunately I cannot examine exactly the ...
