Yes, the client and server need to happen before then can work together. The most common way is to upgrade the server, check that you can login via the web browser, and then upgrade the clients and test.

A good way to go would be to perform a backup of your sgdragnet database first. Then uninstall Vault, delete the database, and then reinstall Vault which will create a new sgdragnet.
