SoS 5.0.3 Access

Hi Support,

I have a SourceSite server on a windows server 2008 machine I can connect to the server through the client on my LAN to the Server and the VSS database (*.ini).

Can you point me in the correct direction in being able to use this over the internet, or is this at all possible?

SourceOffSite can connect over the internet. What is needed is a public address. That address could be directly on your server or to a router/firewall at the edge of your network. I think it's common to have the router forward the traffic from one port to the SOS server. How you set that up depends on the equipment you have and what your preferences are.

is it possible to change the SoS ports from the deafult 8080 and 8081?

Yes you can. Open the SOS Manager found in your Windows Start Menu under Programs. On the General tab are the ports you can change.

Hi Beth,

This may be silly question...

OK.. I can change the ports there for unsecured and secured connections, NOW once that is done I will configure by firewall to allow traffic on PORT # to allow traffic to INTERNAL IP OF SOS SERVER through a dedicated WAN IP (public facing) to listen for traffic on PORT #.

How will this work, as there is no IIS web site setup for the SoS... so if for example to WANIP is typed into IE http://WANIP:PORT# what will happen?

AT present I am trying this locally on the LAN and going to http://servername or serverip:PORT# and get page cannot be found... Am I missing something.

SOS does not use IIS at all. It strictly comes through a port.

When you try to access it, you enter in a FQDN and a port.

I'm attaching a couple of JPEGs showing me logging into the SOS demo server. On the second attachment, you may notice that I am pointing out that there is a message showing the connection in the lower left corner.

I will get the ports allowed for traffic on my WAN IP by the ISP and test this.

Does anyopne know is Sourceoffsite with VSS 2000 can be used with Windows 7?

SourceOffSite 5 is supported on Windows 7.

Microsoft has posted here, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compat ... &os=32-bit, that VSS is compatible Windows 7.
