Currently we are testing the source off site classic 3.5 demo on Windows XP Professional sp1 and sp1a and we get the following messages when trying to start the sourceOffSite server:

Windows XP professional service pack 1

Could not start the SourceOffSite Server service on Local Computer.

Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedlly.

Windows XP professional service pack 1a (+msjava.dll from Windows XP Professional Service pack 1)

The SourceOffSite Server service terminated with service-specific error 2147746132 (0x80040154).

Looks like you have a couple of things going on. For error 1067 see:

Microsoft no longer ships the Microsoft Virtual Machine with the newer operating systems, such as Win2003 server, Win 2000 SP 4 and some versions of WinXP. For this reason, SOS is not fully support on these systems. If you can install the msjava.dll and successfully install SOS, then SOS should work fine. But if there's a problem with the .dll being available to SOS, then we suggest installing on a different machine.

This issue will be resolved in SOS 4.0, which will be released in a few weeks. In fact, you may want to conduct your evaluation with SOS 4.0, which is currently in Preview 3. SOS 4.0 is written in C# and does not rely on the msjava.dll.
