"Make Writeable" is not making writeable.

Post by GreatRewards » Fri Apr 23, 2004 11:24 am

I'm a new user of SOS 4.0 and I'm noticing that when I do a "Get Latest" and select "Make Writeable", the ReadOnly attribute of the desired file does not change. The file is still ReadOnly.

Is there something in SOS setup that needs to be done to get this feature to work properly? If this is truly a bug, I would have expected to see a post about it already, so I'm suspecting I just have something set up wrong.

Any suggestions out there? Thanks.

One reason SOS is so much faster than VSS over the Internet is that we economize on certain operations.

For instance, Get Latest doesn't get the file if the version in the working directory is the same as the version in the database. So if a read-only file in the working directory has the status of "blank," SOS doesn't touch that file.

In order to make the file writeable, do the following:

1) Enable the Command Dialog for Get Latest Version in the Client under Tools->Options->Command Dialogs

2) Select the file(s) and evoke the Get Latest command.

3) In the "Get" dialog, select "Make Writeable" and "Force File Transfer"

This will retrieve a new copy of the file and change the Read-Only attribute.

Thanks for the quick answer, Linda. This sounds like a perfectly reasonable workaround.
