The following error message is displayed:

The server cannot be located on the specified server:port using the current network connection. Please verify that the connection is valid and the server can be seen from this connection.

This error message means either the SourceOffSite Collab Primary Server is not running on the specified port or a clear path has not yet been established between the SourceOffSite Collab Client and Server. First, verify that the Primary Server is running. On Windows NT/2000, the SOS Collab Primary and SOS Collab Web Server services are started via the Services Control Panel. We recommend configuring the Server services to Automatic startup on server reboot. A "sosce_log.txt" file should be within the server installation directory if the Primary Server is running. A "sosceweb_log.txt" file should be within the server installation directory if the Web Server is running.

If the Servers are running, then verify that nothing on the network is blocking the connection. If there is a firewall located between the client and the server, ensure that it is configured to allow TCP connections on all ports specified in the Server Manager. The network connection between the Client machine and Server machine may be checked by trying to reach the SourceOffSite Collab Web Server. This can be done by typing the following, making sure to use the port configured for the SourceOffSite Collab Web Server:

http://servername:port

If the connection is allowed to pass, then you should be prompted to log in. This will prove that the Web Server section is up. A successful login also verifies the SourceOffSite Collab Primary Server is running as well. If you cannot connect, then there is something on the network blocking the path between the SourceOffSite Collab Client and Server.

Please note that SourceOffSite Collaborative Editon communicates on two ports. One for normal traffic and a second for broadcast messages. By default, these ports are 16434 and 16435 for secure connections, and 16436 and 16437 for unsecure connections.
