Unable to checkout file: You may already have checked it out

More and more frequently we are getting this error:
"Unable to checkout file ...: You may already have checked it out"

SOS downloads the file and then displays the message.

Can you tell me what might be going on and how to fix it?

Does the file get checked out after the error message?

Check with a VSS Client to see if the file is already checked out. If you're using the VSS performance cache in SOS Collab, you won't see changes made to files by VSS (or SOS Classic, if you're using that with the database).

Are mulitiple checkouts enabled in VSS? This setting is in the VSS Admin Client under Tools->Options.

If you continue to experience difficulty, put SOS Collab Primary Server logging into Debug Support (Server Manager->Primary Server General->Logging). Reproduce the operations that are failing and then send me a copy of the log file to Linda at SourceGear.com

It turns out to be related to Pinning. I unpinned it from SOS, and SOS showed it as unpinned, but it did not get unpinned in VSS. I had to do it directly from VSS.
