When I try to open a project from source control in visual studio it prompts me for my login and then shows a list of the projects.. our main solution is in \$ and we have other projects under that... no matter which I try to open it goes for a while and looks like it is working but then gives an error: An error has occurred when you attempted to access the source control system. Check installation.

I have tried reinstalling the client but get the same problem.. in the server logs it has a bunch of lines like this:
11/23/2004 21:04:01 - VSS: rename(): unable to rename project $/ to $/
11/23/2004 21:05:04 - VSS: rename(): unable to rename project $/JLBase to $/JLBase
11/23/2004 21:05:09 - VSS: rename(): unable to rename project $/JLWeb to $/JLWeb

any ideas?

Was the solution that you're trying to open added to VSS with
SourceOffSite Collab or SourceSafe? Are other developers currently
working on the solution using integrated SourceSafe?

The log files aren't really reporting any errors. The rename is sort of an integrity check, to see if any project names have changed.

the solution was originally created with vss, do i have to make a new solution and re-add all the projects? No ohter developers are currently using vss to access it.
