generate a report

Post by spiercey » Fri Apr 21, 2006 9:27 am

I have been asked if we can generate a report that compares all of the modules between folders (eg. v1.0 and v2.0) for a single application and outputs some sort of difference report. Does SourceGear have any features that would fufill this requirement?

Are the versions just labels on the same Vault folder, or are they branched folders?

If there are labels, then a history query between two dates will show you all the changes that have happened, which you can save as an HTML file as a report.

If they are in different branches, you would need to do a Folder Diff operation between them, and it would show you which files are different from each version. However, the diff tool that comes with Vault does not yet have a way to print, so if you needed a hard copy, you would need to specify a different diff tool that supports printing.

I like to suggest that the Print feature be added; sounds fairly important!

We have a feature request logged for this. I've added your "vote."

It might be helpful to know what users would like the printed report to look like. We've seen some diff apps that basically just print out an image of the diff/merge screen.

Or, another option is to generate an HTML report.

Is this what you're looking for, or do you want results in a .csv or .txt file?

I would think that HTML and .csv would be good options.

Report format

Since the report is for our SOX compliance team I would expect that simple would be better ;-) Something easily printed would be great (like a pdf).
