VaultGUIClient.exe causes 60-80% CPU utilization

Post by achen » Wed Feb 21, 2007 5:58 pm

FYI - This was first posted on the non-Gold Support forum, but there were no replies. I am posting here in hope of a resolution.

We are using the following version of SGV:

[2/20/2007 10:54:04 AM] Version Check: This Vault client is version 3.5.1.4786
[2/20/2007 10:54:04 AM] Version Check: Your Vault server is version 3.5.1.4786

I have a folder with 2800+ XML files. Everytime I click on the folder in the treeview, the VaultGUIClient.exe task causes the CPU utilization to go to 60-80% for up to 20 seconds. My guess is the VaultGUIClient is trying to refresh the edit status of every file, everytime the VaultGUIClient gets focus.

Is there anyway to turn this auto refresh/scanning off or a workaround without reducing the number of files in a given folder? It makes Vault almost impossible to use for large projects. Thanks.

Note: Our workstations have 2GB of RAM, running WinXP+SP2.

The refresh does update or refresh file status, and if you have 2800 files in folder, this is a resource hit.

There's no way to turn this off, but I'll log a feature request to take a look at this and see how we can optimize the refresh.

Thanks for the response. It would be useful to have an option to turn off auto refresh since the Vault client has a button to rescan working folders on demand already.

Hopefully this can be included in an upcoming patch release.
