Email notification for Item Tracking

Post by infinition » Mon Nov 10, 2008 3:26 pm

Hi,

Probably a newbie question, but is there e-mail notification for Item Tracking? I haven't found the option and this could be very useful for us.

What I mean by notification is automatic sending of e-mail by Fortress to the user "Assignee" or "Resolver" when an item is added or modified.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, Fortress has e-mail notification capability.

First, verify that the Fortress Admin has configured the E-mail Settings in the Fortress Admin Web client.

Next, subscribe to e-mail notifications. In Fortress item tracking, choose a project and then click the Preferences link at top of page. On the right-hand side, there will be a link for E-mail. Click on that link, and you will be able to set your e-mail preferences. You can choose to get e-mail notifications for all items, items assigned to you, or items from a particular project.

Let me know if you have additional questions about.

Hi,

I've setup notifications as described in this thread. Is there anyway to set it so that I don't get an email if I'm the one that modified the item?

Thanks
Andy

No, but we do have a feature request logged for more granularity in e-mail notifications. I'll add your "vote" to feature request.

Hi,
I've gone through the steps described above, and I'm not getting any email notifications. I've even set my preferences to receive email on every activity in every project.
What's the secret switch?
Is there any way to test that Fortress is actually making contact with the SMTP server, so I can work out where the breakdown is happening?
Thanks,
Shaul

I have followed the set-up for having the fortress application email for item tracking, but am having issues actually receiving the emails. I can't seem to find any trace of an exception being tracked when attempting to send the emails in the fortress logging files or in the event viewer.

As an end result, I'm attempting to use my company's internal smtp server. I also changed the Active Directory domain in the Advanced server settings to be the authenticating domain. Since I'm not seeing any error messages, but not getting it to work, I thought I'd try my gmail account, which I know works elsewhere. I have attempted to use my gmail account as the smtp server, but that also does not work.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm attaching a document I created that goes through what it needed step-by-step. Check that out and see if it helps.

I had already done everything in the document except watching folders from the GUI client, which I also tried and it also failed. Is there somewhere I can find error messages regarding failed sending of emails or anything? I can't figure out what's going on here.

Check your server logs in C:\Windows\temp\sgvault\sgvault.log and in C:\Windows\temp\SGFortress\fortress.log. If you don't see much, then try setting your server to debug logging using the logging link in the admin web page. Then recheck the sgvault logs. Are any errors being logged? Did you use a valid user account in the email settings? Can you check your junk email or your filters to make sure it's not just being filtered out?

Could you send an email to support at sourcegear.com (attn: Beth) with a link to this forum thread? It might help if I can take a closer look.
