Fortress repository backup cabapility?

Post by kha » Thu Dec 03, 2009 3:25 pm

We are using Vault 4.1.4 and want to backup a repository before we archive and get rid of that repository from the production database. We are doing daily backup of the production database.

However, with Vault, we can only backup the whole production database, no choice for a single repository.
So, I wonder if latest version of Fortress gives us this option to backup a selected repository instead of a whole production database?
Also, can we do upgrade to Vault 4.1.4 to latest Fortress? Any thing we (system manager and developers) have to consider before and after the installation/upgrade? How is the license work if our current Vault license are still valid, i assume license for Fortress is more expensive?

There's no way to backup a specific repository, since it's part of the larger database. If you have a database backup you have a backup of the repository. A workaround would be to restore the database to a test server, install Vault and delete all but this repository.

To upgrade from Vault 4.1.4 to Fortress, you would get your Fortress licenses, then backup the Vault databases, uninstall Vault, leaving the databases when prompted, and install Fortress. The Fortress installer will create a new database for the item tracking.

Fortress licenses are more expensive than Vault licenses, but there's a discount if you already have Vault. Contact our sales department at sgstore at sourcegear.com for details.
