Server Install Problem On Vista

Post by NigelAinscoe » Mon Sep 17, 2007 8:59 am

When trying to install the server on Vista I get "ASP.NET must be enabled for the Fortress Server". A not very helpful error message.
I have registered asp.net 2.0 using the instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... us;q306005 as suggested in the (vault) install instructions. I have checked that the default web site pool is set to use ASP.Net 2. What else am I missing?

By the way, I am disappointed with the install documentation. I am just evaluating using the free single user but if I was paying 500 dollars a seat I think I would be expecting either more comprehensive instructions or an installer that sorted out issues like this for me.

TIA

What version of Vista are you using?
Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?

Check these KB articles to see if there is any additional configuration you need to do.

Currently to install the Server on Vista you need to install with elevated privileges from a command prompt.

Please see the following KB article for more information:

We are in the process of changing the software we use to create the installers which should fix the issue you are seeing and similar Vista install issues. The next major release will have new installers that will "just work" on Vista.

OK that worked. Vista obviously views right click, run as administrator differently to run command prompt as administrator, run program.

Thanks for the quick reply
