Allow 32 bit installs on 64 bit system

Post by Bacchus66 » Thu Aug 02, 2012 10:14 am

It would be nice if the 32 bit installer would allow installation on 64 bit systems. I'm running on Windows 7 64 bit pro. By default I would install the 64 bit version, and originally did with DiffMerge. However I was having issues re crashes when reloading files that had been modified externally. After anywhere from 2-4 such reloads, the app would crash.

I wanted to see if the 32-bit version had the same problem, and the files themselves aren't that large (largest was 992k, most were under 200k). But the install craps out saying it will only install on 32 bit systems.

I can put in a feature request to allow a 32-bit install of DiffMerge on a 64-bit system.

F: 16499

I tried making hangs happen with the DiffMerge having to reload and couldn't make that behavior happen. How many changes happen?

Are both files modified when they have to reload in DiffMerge or just one?

Usually just one, though it may have sometimes been both. It's been a few weeks so I'm not 100% sure it was always a single file. This occurred after repeated reloads of the same file. Not just reloads in general, if that helps. The next time I use DiffMerge I'll keep a more detailed eye out for the issue and see if I can specify a scenario.

I tested with several reloads on the same set of files I was diff'ing and couldn't reproduce it. I'll wait for more detailed instructions.
