Hi, I am using DiffMerge to compare configuration files located on different servers and I frequently need to start new comparisons and change the IP address in the file path. Each time I modify one character in the path, the application freeze for a couple of seconds. For the moment, I paste the path in Notepad, modify it, then put it back in the dialog, but a it's bit tedious.

Is it possible to avoid this?

Thanks!

I think I've recreated what you are seeing. I will get a bug logged for the developer.

In the meantime, using the browse button might be faster.

Thank you for your feedback.

The hang problem is being caused by the "auto-completion" feature
enabled on the text fields. This causes the familiar list of choices to
appear below the text field as you type. This feature is provided by
the OS. It looks like when you are editing in the network server
portion of the pathname, Windows is going out and looking for a
server (with that incomplete name). Editing in the filename portion,
doesn't hang, for example.

So I'm not sure there's much I can do about the problem (other than
disabling the auto-complete feature). Sorry.

Perhaps you could try cutting/pasting the network name rather than
typing the new name.

Also, the pathname fields in that dialog do accept DROPS, so you might
try using Windows Explorer to drag-n-drop a pathname onto it.

Hope that helps.
