Upgrading from Vault Standard to Vault Professional

Post by lbauer » Fri Sep 28, 2012 8:38 am

Here are steps to upgrade from Vault Standard to Vault Professional

1) First, get your Vault Professional licenses so you'll have them when you start using your Vault Pro server. After the Vault Pro server is installed, your licenses will need to be configured in the Vault Admin Web Client->Server Settings->Licenses before users can log in.

If you are on Vault 4.x or earlier, you should upgrade in stages:

2) Users should check in any file modifications before upgrading from Vault to Vault Pro.

3) Next, back up your Vault databases: sgvault, and sgmaster and, if on Vault 6 or later, also backup sgnotify and sgvaultindex.

4) Then uninstall Vault Standard Server, leaving the databases when prompted.

5) Run the Vault Professional installer. Follow the prompts. The installer will detect the existing databases and ask if you want to keep them. Click "Yes."

For more information on Vault Pro installation, see this guide:

5) Users will need to install Vault Pro clients in order to log into the Vault Pro server. Vault Standard clients cannot connect to a Vault Pro server. You can uninstall the Vault Standard Client when you no longer need it.

6) NOTE: If users are using Visual Studio integration with Vault, they will need to unbind their projects from Vault Standard to Vault Professional:

7) User with Eclipse will need install a Vault Pro Eclipse plugin. http://www.sourcegear.com/vault/documen ... ngstarted/

Installation Notes:
To support the new Find in Files and Notification Services, both Vault Standard and Vault Professional 6.x and later versions have two new databases that did not exist in versions prior to 6.0: sgnotify and sgvaultindex, and two new web services, VaultIndexService and VaultNotifyService. Vault Pro also has an sgdragnet database and VaultPro web service for work item tracking

During the installation, the Vault Pro Installer will:

-- Update the VaultService directory on the local hard drive.

--Update the sgvault and sgmaster databases in SQL Server.

-- Create or update the sgdragnet, sgnotify and sgvaultindex databases

-- Update the VaultService, VaultShadowFolder, SGDav (VaultWebDAV) virtual directories and create the VaultIndexService, VaultNotifyService, and VaultPro virtual directories in IIS and their corresponding folders under the IIS web root.

If you upgraded from a version earlier than Vault 6.x, turn on Find in Files indexing in the Admin Web Client under Repository options. To enable email notifications, configure your mail server information in Vault Admin Web Client ->Server Settings Email Settings. Notification options are configured by the user in Vault Professional Client options.

If you are upgrading from Vault 6.x to a version of Vault Pro 6.x or later, your notifications and index settings will be preserved.
