Problem with deleting a folder

Post by Lane » Fri Aug 15, 2008 11:41 am

I encountered the following problem using the Vault client (4.1.2):

1. Right click on a folder in a repository.
2. Select Delete... from the context menu.
3. Confirm the delete.
4. I get an error message stating that there is a file checked out and the folder could not be deleted.
5. The folder no longer appears in the left pane.
6. Select View | Refresh. The folder still does not appear.
7. Close and restart the Vault client. The folder still does not appear.
8. Delete my local cache files. Now the folder reappears.

After I went into the admin tool and performed an Undo Checkout, I was able to delete the folder successfully.

I don't like having to delete my local cache files. It wipes out all of my working folder associations.

Is this error on your radar as something to be fixed in a future release?

When the delete (correctly) failed because a file beneath it was checked out, the folder delete remained in your pending changes list. This is why it no longer appears in the folder tree. Your view of the repository reflects your pending changes. To get the folder back, you can simply delete the pending change.

When working with auto-commit enabled (which is admittedly the default), this is probably less intuitive than it should be. I'll log a bug to consider not leaving a pending delete in this case.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
