Frequent Unhandled exception in vault

Post by Xavier » Tue Aug 26, 2008 3:14 am

Hello,

I've loads of warning in the eventviewer. Could you help me fix that, I'm a bit afraid of seeing so many errors (20-50 per day...)

Can you look in your Vault Server Log to see what it says around the same time as one of those errors?

Usually, a FailFileInvalidCheckSum indicates a network problem, but usually the first thing people report is an inability to check in files.

In your users' Vault clients, under Tools - Options - Network Settings, do they have Chunked Encoding set?

Re: Frequent Unhandled exception in vault

Since the error is on the framework, let's try re-registering that.

Open a command prompt and run the following:
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis -u
and then
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis -i

Depending on the server OS, you might need to substitute Winnt for Windows in the command.

Then check and see if the errors continue. If they do, then I'd suggest a repair install on your .NET framework next and perform an iisreset on the server (Start - Run - then type 'iisreset').

Less errors today: 2

However I'm on windows server 2008 and there is no '.NET Framework' in the add remove programs. What should I reinstall exactly ?

Errors again yesterday (3) one this morning
-->Tried to install .NetFramework: 'failed: already part of the OS'
-->Tried .netFW2.0sp2: 'Failed: product is not installed on your system' ?! (translation from the french message)

Desinstalled ASP.NET (because the error is refered as ASPNET): cannot restart fortress

Uninstall/Reinstall Fortress->
Requesting the IIS Process User...Requesting Fortress Admin user password...OK
Connecting to the SQL Server...OK
Verifying the SQL Server requirements...OK
Checking for an existing databases...Found.
Asking for database's fate...Keep existing.
Upgrading the existing source control database...
This may take a long time. Do NOT stop this process!
Upgrade failed. The sgvault and sgdragnet databases must have the same SQL Collation. This must be fixed before upgrading the databases to Fortress.
SQL Collations must be the same for the sgvault and sgdragnet databases
Fortress Setup is exiting due to a failure or cancellation. Error Code = 450
The had exactly the same collation/parameters.

I've then uninstalled/reinstalled SQL Server in english this time

Anyway after a fresh installation created files are in French_CS_AI where the former files are SQL_Latin....
I had no solution other than removing the created file by the fresh install and replace same with our source base.

Do you think the errors can come from the collation ?

I'll let you know how
Best regards

First, if you uninstalled the .NET framework, did you reinstall it before doing anything else? Fortress can't run without it.

Next, before installing Fortress, you should have the previous databases in place. Fortress will pick those databases up during the install. Do you have a SQL backup available? If so, after reinstalling the .NET framework, restore the previous database and install Fortress.

I could not uninstall .NET. I made a mistake and uninstalled ASP.NET...
I had the previsous database in place, the installer asked if I wanted to use it; I answered yes and got those 'collations' errors.

I then move the database, created a new one, and replace the empy DB with my backups; it works though the collation is Latin, whereas the installer created a French collation database...

It works (except for the security page). But I really think I made something wrong somewhere explaining all those messages, errors...

If the security page is continuing to be inaccessible, could you send an email to support at sourcegear.com with a link to this thread? I think taking a closer look will help.
