Question: Sharing Files

Post by Balthazor » Wed Dec 10, 2008 11:31 am

Is there any way that, using the Vault API, to create a share link between files which already exist?

The reason I ask is because in order to bring our files in from VSS we're having to basically get latest on all the VSS files and then bring them into Vault. There's just too much in our VSS database for the VSS Import tool to handle. The problem with bringing the files over like this is that we'll lose all our share links. So what I'd like to do is write a tool that will find all the share paths in VSS and reestablish them in Vault, but I do not know if this is even possible. And obviously I don't want to spend a whole lot of time trying to do this if it's not possible.

Thanks!

We have a debug build of the VSS import tool that can re-share files in VSS. We use this to re-establish shares when VSS data is added to Vault as new files, rather than as an import of the entire history.

The folder structure in Vault must match the folder/file structure in VSS.
