Best way to branch and fix bindings?

Post by lodani » Thu Mar 12, 2009 4:18 pm

Hello,

I'm testing the branching feature and I'd like to know wich is the best way to fix the source control bindings after the branchinf proces since after branching, all the vscs are still pointing to the old place.

I'm using VS2005 and Vault 4.1.4

any advise on that?

thanks,

dani

Have you performed a fresh Open from Source Control or Open from Vault?

Can you tell me if you are using the Enhanced or Classic Client in the VS Tools - Options - Source Control setting?

Hello!

I'm using the Classic Client. I usually do a get latest recursive from the Vault Client and not from Visual Studio, and then I open the solution from Visual Studio.

Do I have to open it always from inside Visual Studio ?

You only need to perform an Open from Source Control the first time. After that you can either use the recent projects link in VS or double-click the solution file on disk, or even Get from Vault first if you want, provided the bindings were set first.

Also, if you have an old version of VS, you could be running into an old Microsoft bug: Branching a project stills checks out file from trunk in IDE. In that link is a link to the Microsoft article on fixing that. If all attempts at fixing your bindings fail, then you might want to look at that article.
