Filename length rule

Post by Lane » Wed Jun 10, 2009 11:16 am

Could you please clarify the filename length restriction:
Length of a single file or folder name= 256 chars
Does this mean the entire path plus filename combined is limited to 256 chars, or each folder in the path and the filename by itself are each limited to 256?

Thanks.

It's the entire path. And it's not just the repository path that can reach this limit; it can also include the working folder path especially if the client-side cache files are stored in the working folder.

Will v5 address this limitation?

I.e. will file paths be allowed to exceed 256 characters in v5?

No. This is not a Vault limit, it's a .NET limit, which we have no control over.
