Removing a user

Post by Xavier » Mon Dec 07, 2009 9:29 am

Hello,

we create user for customer's, developers, people needing temporary access to the repositories and look at bugs. The problem is we now have really a lot of users and they cannot be removed (unless I missed something).
It could be OK, if inactive users were hidden from the lists (almost all of them). (I still would prefer to remove users, as sometimes some customers never connect at all...)

Could you please explain how a user can be deleted or filter the lists with only active users.

Thanks

Xavier
Best regards

It's not possible to remove users, as in most cases there are bugs or code associated with them. You can make users inactive. This setting is in the Admin Web Client under Server Settings->Users. If you select a user and look at the user Details, you'll see a Status dropdown for Active/Inactive. Choose Inactive. then in the Users list, check the checkbox for Hide inactive users. Now that user is hidden from the list.

If you're using Folder security, there's a Hide Inactive Users checkbox on the Folder Security page so you don't see inactive users when assigning security rights. In the Project Access page for Item Tracking Projects, you can also hide inactive users.

You'll need to log off and log in again for the changes to take effect.

The users will still show up in History Explorer->Filter by users and possibly some other places, but you won't have them in Admin tasks and bug assignment dropdowns.

If you have users who have never connected at all or have no source code checkins or items/bugs associated with their username, you could change the username in the User Details and reuse that account, since they have no history to track.

In the search pane of the vault gui client all the users are listed, in the shelve list also, ...
Even the WEB users only are listed in the VAULT GUI Client lists. It would be great to, at least filter the developpers only and possibly remove the inactive users.
As for renaming users, the problem is that it's difficult to be sure it's never been used. A remove option would raise an SQL error if it's referenced or removed if it's OK.

Yes, you make a good point. We have feature request 14925 already logged to remove inactive users from view wherever you might select users. I've added your "vote" and bumped it up in priority.

And please add to never display web only users. Unless I missed something there is absolutely no case where those users should have a file chcked out, a shelve or whatever ?
If it's possible to create a shelve from the WEB, then please add the feature to hide web only users and users that don't have repository access; as far as we are concerned they only have access to fortress (bugs).

Looking forward to it !
