Check out, check in button

I think that when I do a check out, the check in button should immediately update to enabled. Sometimes I do this:
1. check out file (using gui client)
2. edit file in vs.net
3. switch back to vault gui client
4. I want to just hit the check in button here, but I can't because it is not enabled
5. click off the file(s) I had checked out, click on them again
6. Click the check in button which is now enabled.

Or am I just missing something here
