Obliteration Question

Post by jsynoski » Mon Apr 10, 2006 6:48 am

In reviewing the obliteration lists for the VSS databases that I've imported, there are a significant number of files listed that have a _VSSImport0 or _VSSImport1 appended to them and are repeated up to 20 times.

a) What are these files?
b) Can they be safely obliterated?

These belong to imported labels and should not be obliterated. They are files deleted after the label was applied but will be needed to reconstruct the label for a Get by Label.

If these files are needed to reconstruct labels, then why are they listed in the Obliterate dialog?

Because they are deleted and deleted items show up in the Obliterate screen. There might be a better way to handle deleted files that should not be obliterated.

I'll log a bug about this.
