Upgrade from 4.1 Beta 2 to 4.1

Can we upgrade our users (clients) from 4.1 Beta 2 to 4.1 Release version without upgrading the server?

Does the server upgrade actually make database changes?

The 4.1 release client cannot connect to a 4.0 server or a 4.1 beta server.

Yes, the server upgrade does change the database.
