Detect New Files (AND FOLDERS)?

Post by ddd » Mon May 15, 2006 7:09 pm

Hello,

I like using the Detect New Files feature - makes it easy to remember when I change 5 or 10 things across different libs that are all related. The problem is there is no Detect New Files and Folders option which would be handy. When I add a new folder and forget about it it's a pain to add since you have to know where to add it before choosing add (If I say add files/folders to the main lib and it's 3 layers deep, it would want to put it in the main lib). Maybe there should be a "relalive" option/checkbox there so if done that way it goes to the correct loation. Anyway, it would help to add at least one option (both would be best).

I've been burned by this also -- using Add New Files, and browsing down and adding the new ones, and then it adds them all at the root level, which is of course not what I wanted (I cannot really imagine when I would EVER want that).

Vault 3.5 will have the ability to add folders from the Vault main window, by turning on an option that will show local folders in the main tree.

The current version is 3.1.8.3771. I'm not sure how you do your numbering scheme but isn't 3.5 quite a ways away?

It should be available in June.

3.5 is an interim release, meant to indicate it isn't quite 4.0, but is much more than a 3.2. :)

Detect New Files (and new folders)

I, too, am desperately in need of this functionality.

In SourceSafe, if I had created a bunch of new folders and files in a project, all I had to do was add recursively in one fell swoop. If one of the files already existed in SourceSafe, it would just skip it and move on to the next file or folder. It wouldn't error out like Vault does when I try to do this.

Thanks for all your hard work! You all have made a very useful product
