Details pane beeping on click in Vista

Post by JPrime » Thu Jun 21, 2007 10:38 am

A developer here has reported that since upgrading to 4.0.1, any time they click anywhere on the details pane (pending changeset, messages, search) that Windows Vista plays the default beep. He cannot find any way around this (muting all windows sounds causes the PC speaker to beep).

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Jonas

I use Vista for day-to-day development, and haven't experienced this. Is anybody else seeing this behavior?

As an aside, I use Vista also and I haven't had this happen. Just my coworker.

Also Beeps in Vista

I also experience a system default beep in Vista when I select anything on the right hand pane. I don't see any error messages. Strange, huh? This is my home computer running Vista Premium (so not attached to a domain, but completely updated.)

BTW, this is a new install of version 4.0.2 over my previous 3.5.2 on Vista Ultimate.

Client Information
Vault Client Version: 4.0.2.15802
.Net Framework Version: 2.0.50727.312
Operating System: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Ultimate
Service Pack: 0.0
OS Version: 6.0.6000
Total Physical Memory: 3.5 GB
Time Zone: (GMT-07:00) Mountain Time (US & Canada)

Everything works fine. It's just annoying.

Windows is counting that as a Select action. If you go into your Sounds configuration under the control panel, you can change or turn off the Select beep.

Nice try. There's nothing set in the system Select action.

Finally, we were able to reproduce this. Turns out, it is a Vista bug related to system sounds. (Beth's instincts were actually right on!) You can fix it with a simple registry change.

Ian's link is no longer valid -- not surprising 4.5 years later. This one below is active now and has a registry fix that worked for me:
