Trouble starting SourceOffsite Server 3.5.3 services

Post by matte » Wed Jul 02, 2008 5:35 pm

Hi,

We just moved from a Windows 2000 32 bit server to a Windows 2003 R2 Standard Edition 32 bit server. The install went without a hitch. However, the services won't start. We get the following error message when we try to start the SourceOffsite Server from the Services location:
"Windows could not start the SourceOffsite server on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a Non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code -2147221164."

The Service Event Log recorded the following message: "The SourceOffSite Server service terminated with service-specific error 2147746132 (0x80040154)."

Do you have any trouble shooting recommendations on resolving the issue so the SourceOffsite Server can start?

Most likely the new machine does not have the Microsoft Java virtual machine installed.

We have installed Microsoft Java Virtual Machine successfully. However, the service for the SourceOffSite Server still will not work. I ran sc query sourceoffsite server in the command prompt and the reply said it wasn't a recognized service ("The specified service does not exist as an installed service.").

To be sure, we installed VSS6, sos_server_winnt_professional_vss6.exe and I can see it listed as a service.

Any other recommendations short of having to upgrade to 4.2?

If the installation of the JVM works, then we can support SOS 3.x on Windows 2003 server. But if it doesn't work, there's no further troubleshooting we can do, as the JVM is no longer supported by Microsoft.

Upgrading to 4.2 would be our suggestion.
