SOS Users v3.5 vrs Version 4.2

Post by credondo » Thu Sep 25, 2008 1:36 pm

Hi guys,
I want to upgrade my current SourceOffSite Server Manager to version 4.2, but recently I reviewed our License Summary status and I found that we have 5 users on version 3.5. The question is:

1. Should (must) we need to upgrade those 5 seats to 4.2 to be able to work with version 4.2?

One of the big motiviation to upgrade our Server Manager to version 4.2 is that we are facing some Get Latest Version issues on VS2008; specially when we have new items. Do you know if this particular issue is already fixed on 4.2?

Thanks for your answers.
Carlos.

License Summary
Product Version Num of Users Latest Maintenance?
SourceOffSite 4.2 4 Yes N/A
SourceOffSite 3.5 5 No (4.2) N/A

SourceOffSite licenses are configured on the server side. You need 4.2 licenses to run a 4.2 SOS server. Also, clients would need to be upgraded to 4.2. That's licensing information.

SourceOffSite 4.2 will work better with Visual Studio 2008, although full support will come in SourceOffSite 5.0, due out late this year.

Ok, then I have to upgrade my current 5 v3.5 user licenses to be able to work with SOS v4.2, that's makes a lot of sense. Now you mentioned SOS v5.0 will be ready by the end of this year (full support to VS2008) and definitely I will like to have v5.0 in place when you release it, but that's means that I'll have to upgrade now my current (recently) 5 v4.2 user lincenses to v5.0 ($99 per each). Which could be the best cost effective solution in this case? I read something about "user maintenance" but I didn't find a easy way to add maintenance support on my shopping cart. Can you explain me which could be the best upgrade approach?

Thanks.
