Vault Client connection problem

Post by plamenjm » Sat Jul 29, 2006 7:56 am

Hi,

My vault client is 2.0.6 - maybe old, but it is not the point.

Everything was working just fine few days ago. Just one my colleague had some connection problems long time back.

Starting from few days ago, my vault client can not connect anymore. It show "Connecting to server..." in status bar and that is all. No error message, nothing! (??!)
1. I can not connect using my account - no error msg.
2. I can not connect using other accounts - no error msg.
3. I can not connect if I give wrong user and/or password and/or server name - no error msg even when server name is wrong.

Please check the attached screenshot. This is the vault client screen after 30 minutes. 30 minutes trying to connect to wrong server name, without timeout, without any error message.

I do not remember did I install some 3rd party software that day - but probably I did not.

I did uninstall and install again net framework and vault client few times without any results.

Please help.
Plamen.

Not much to go on here. This appears to be a problem with the specific machine. I assume you can connect from a different machine?

What version(s) of the .NET Framework are on your client machine?

You could enable client-side logging to see if anything helpful is logged.

http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=1534

Is there anything in the Windows Event Viewer that corresponds with the hang?

If you look in Task Manager, are there other processes running that might conflict with Vault? Did you install any Windows Updates, or updates to other software that may have changed your machine somehow?

vault client log file and more details

Post by plamenjm » Sun Jul 30, 2006 4:38 am

Hi,

10x for the quick answer.

Net framework version: v1.1.4322

Yes, I did install windows updates, but I do not remember the lastest. Usually I do download and install all of them after windows notification (automatic updates="notify, do not download/install automatically")

Here is the vault log file "VaultGUIClient.txt" from "%temp%" folder, (classesToLog="all"):

30.7.2006 г. 13:06:40 <statussearch>: [Main:3064] Connection state changed from Unconnected to Connecting
after 30 min without any response I kill it and start it again

Btw, after 30 min, I did click "Abort current operation" and nothing, also nothing in the log file.

10x in advance for the help.

computer name, user name

Post by plamenjm » Mon Jul 31, 2006 9:06 am

Some more details: the problem with vault client happens after I keep it running for so long time (few days). I was thinking it is a temporal problem and will be fixed after I restart my machine.

When I notice the problem I was thinking if it is related to my computer name or user name, so I did change my computer name and reinstall vault again and try to connect - again no success.

Solution...

Post by plamenjm » Tue Aug 01, 2006 4:37 am

1) I try to connect using vault.exe (command line client) and I get this:

<<
>vault.exe get -host %HOST% -user %USER% -password %PASS% -repository %REPO% -makewritable -merge "later" -setfiletime "checkin" "$"

Unhandled Exception: System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for "System.Net.Sockets.Socket" threw an exception. ---> System.Net.Sockets.Socket Exception: An operation on a socket could not be performed because the system lacked sufficient buffer space or because a queue was full
at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.InitializeSockets()
at System.Net.Sockets.Socket..cctor()

at System.Net.Connection.StartConnectionCallback(Object state, Boolean wasSig

2) I did search in google and I found this:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;815209

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241257/
>>

3) I did remove some installed network protocols. I run device manager, check all hidden (useless USB devices) and uninstall some of them.

<<
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
cd \windows\System32
start devmgmt.msc
>>

RIGHT NOW, everything is working perfectly!!! 10x for the help. I am very very happy.

There are 2 PENDING questions:

1) Why I did not get enough help from vault support?
2) Why vault client does not show proper error messages?
(10x God, that command line vault client do show more error messages)

1) Why I did not get enough help from vault support?
We're sorry you weren't happy with our support. We did try to respond quickly, on a weeked, outside normal business hours. This appeared to be network issue, but there wasn't enough information in your intial posts to help us diagnose the problem. We're glad you were able to resolve it.

Also -- Gold Support customers get top priority. Turnaround time is slower if you don't have Gold Support.
2) Why vault client does not show proper error messages?
Our Vault clients logs do show the disconnects. We'll see if it's possible to put better network error reports in the logs in a future version.

It is highly appreciated! I am unhappy with the circumstances and consequences. Does not matter what was the reason - Windows or Linux or Vault. But this was the only place where I could get help.

Also I hope, my feedback was less or more helpful... or could be useful for someone else.

Again 10x for the help.

I am receiving the same problem listed above for all Machines on my network which started occuring two days ago.

We are all using Vault client is version 4.1.1.18060

We can log into the Web Client Http://VualtServer/VaultService/Admin/Repositories.aspx

but we are unable to use the Desktop Client to connect.

Any help would be appreciated.

What is the OS of the server? The OS of the clients?

Are any errors logged in the Vault Server Log?

How many websites are on that same server?

Can you connect with a client right on the server using localhost as the server name to connect to?

Do you have Windows Firewall running on the server?
