Versioning a remote database

Is it fairly easy to setup Vault to version and control access to a remote SQL Server 2008 DB? Our small team is now doing some web development and I really don't feel comfortable with how fragile the DB update process is. I probably need to do lots of research, but I'm hoping for a quick overview of how effective this approach might be.
