Unable to connect

Post by vikassethi » Wed Jul 15, 2009 1:57 am

I have installed Fortress Server and Client on my machine. However when I try to connect to the server through Firefox or IE by passing the following two URL's:
http://localhost/vaultservice/vaultservice.asmx
Or
http://localhost/vaultservice

I get an error that says:
XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: http://localhost/vaultservice/vaultservice.asmx
Line Number 1, Column 1:

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is this Fortress 1.1.4?

Can you connect using the machine IP address or machine name?

What error do you get when you use the Fortress Client to connect?

What version of Firefox or IE are you using?

Could you post the info in your Fortress Client under Help->Technical Support

Yes this is Fortress 1.1.4. I downloaded and installed it yesterday only.

Nope. I am not able to connect it by mentioning machine name as well and the error is the same.

IE8 and Firefox 3.5 are the versions I have.

Unable to connect to http://badaraghu/VaultService. No server was found at the specified URL. Please verify your network settings using the Options dialog under the Tools menu in the Vault GUI Client. Web Exception: The server committed a protocol violation. Section=ResponseStatusLine

We've had reports of this error with certain anti-virus programs. Could an anti-virus program be interfering with the connection?

Hi,

I have the same problem when launching the admin page (http://storage/vaultservice/admin/). I installed FortressServer_1_1_4_18402.msi and I get this is the error when I open Admin Web Client:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

A name was started with an invalid character. Error processing resource 'http://storage/vaultservice/admin/'. Line 1, Position 2.

<%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="AdminMaster.Master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="...

My configuration:
XP Pro SP3
SQL Server 2008
.NET Framework 3.5 SP1.
IIS 5.0
IE 6.0

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks!

Hi,

I have installed FortressServer_1_1_4_18402.msi on a fresh machine and I get this error when trying to open the Admin Web Client (http://storage/vaultservice/admin/):

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.
A name was started with an invalid character. Error processing resource 'http://storage/vaultservice/admin/'. Line 1, Position 2.
<%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="AdminMaster.Master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="...

This is on the server machine, I did not installed any client yet. My configuration is:
XP Pro SP3
SQL Server 2008
.Net Framework 3.5
IIS 5.0 (default site is working so the server is up)
IE 6.0
No antivirus

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks!

It's possible to get this error if IIS was installed after the .NET Framework.

Using the command line, cd to this directory: C:\Windows\Microsoft.net\framework\V2.0.50727 directory.

Run this command:

Code: Select all

aspnet_regiis -i
This reinstalls asp.net 2.0

Let me know if this does not resolve the problem.

I am experiencing the same issue originally reported by vikassethi when I click on the links on the email notification or from the links on our cc.net project page:

XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: http://10.220.1.97/VaultService/VaultWe ... txid=28589
Line Number 1, Column 1:
^

Fortress 2.0.4

Same result whether using machine name or ip address.

No error when I connect using the Fortress Client.

Using Firefox 3.6.9.

What happens if you paste that link in a browser?

When you connect to Fortress with the GUI Client or connect via the Web Client, do you use this IP address?

I had the same problem as vikassethi. However, I had to uninstall asp.net as an additional step before installing asp.net 2.0.
This resolved the issue.

Code: Select all

aspnet_regiis -ua
aspnet_regiis -i
