Find what Fortress Item a file was checked in under

Post by ecobb » Wed Jan 19, 2011 1:40 pm

How can you find what Fortress Item a file was checked in under? When I view history on a file, if the Item number isn't listed in the comments, there doesn't seem to be any way find the Item number. It doesn't show up in the file's details in Eclipse or the Fortress Client. When I search for the file name in the Item Tracking website it doesn't find anything there because it looks like the search doesn't look at the "files modified" list.

Is there a way for me to find the Item number?

When you enter an item number, do you enter it manually, or do you use the Browse button to select it?

Does the user that checked in have rights to that project?

Which version of Fortress are you using?

Some people enter it manually, and some use the Browse button to select it (which puts the item number in the comments).

All users have rights to everything.

We are using Fortress Version 2.0.3.18802

When you use the browse button, then it's very easy to find which item something was checked into. You would perform a view history and show comments to see.

Right, but sometimes people don't use the browse button to add the issue number, they just type it in, and in those cases Fortress doesn't put the issue number in the comments.

Is there no other way to find what item a file was checked in under? The item number has to be listed in the comments or you have no way of knowing what it is?

If there isn't a way in Fortress or Eclipse to find this, is there a view or a stored proc. that I can call to get this info?

I'm checking into this, but I think without using the browse button or typing in the comment, you won't get it. What will help is if you require comments on that repository, so that users can't check in without some kind of comment being made. That is done from within the admin web page.

I can put in a feature request to change this functionality if you would like.
