Sometimes, performing a history or a get will result in the following error message "The Vault server could not be contacted to perform the operation. Your network connection to the server may have been interrupted." This message is a bit misleading. It is actually being generated from within SSL.

There are two ways to work around this problem. One method is to connect to the server without using SSL. A more permanent solution is to install Windows 2000 service pack 3 on the machine hosting the Vault server.
