About Check Out / Change Set / Change Set Item Comments

Post by Beth » Wed Feb 15, 2017 3:18 pm

In Vault, comments are applied to files and folders when they are committed to the repository.

There are two types of comments -- Change Set Item comments and overall Change Set comments.

These are different types of comments and are seen in different places in History.
  • If a file has a Change Set Item (checkout) comment AND a Change Set comment, the item comment appears in File History and Folder History by Item. The Change Set comment appears in Folder History by Version.
  • If a file has only an Change Set Item (checkout) comment, that Item comment appears in File History and Folder History by Item. There is no comment displayed in Folder History by Version.
  • If a file has only a Change Set comment, then the comment is displayed in all three History queries.
To add or edit a Change Set comment: Invoke Show History on the folder. In the History Query dialog, choose View folder history by version. This will give you a list of versions with their dates. You can select the latest version and click on the Details button on the right, which will allow you to edit the Change Set comment.

To edit a Change Set Item comment, Invoke Show History on the file. In the history results, display the Version Details, and click the "Edit Comment" button to edit the Change Set Item comment.

Note: Only the user that committed the change set or Admin can update or change comments.
