Feature inquiry: roaming user profiles

Post by asills » Mon Apr 18, 2005 12:22 pm

So Vault stores all user cache in %AppData%, which gets carried between machines in the case of roaming profiles.

"The directory that serves as a common repository for application-specific data for the current roaming user.
A roaming user works on more than one computer on a network. A roaming user's profile is kept on a server on the network and is loaded onto a system when the user logs on."

Is %AppData% really appropriate for storing most of the Vault settings? For instance your working folder assignments exist in %AppData%, but if I have a roaming profile and log into another machine where I might have different working folder assignments, wouldn't the data from %AppData% be shared between the two machines and thus not enable me to have separate working folders on two different machines?

Yes, this is a problem in 3.0. It will be addressed in 3.1, where the default will be local settings rather than app data, and you'll be able to choose to store the state files anywhere you want.
