SOS 4.0 hangs when doing recursive get latest
The SOS 4.0 client takes an extremely long time to get the latest version of files from a Source Safe server. Source Safe is much faster for this operation than SOS 4.0.

Are you using the SOS Client on the LAN or remotely? VSS is much faster on the LAN than SOS because SOS must communicate with the VSS database via the SourceSafe API.
However, SOS is usually much faster than VSS over the Internet.
If you're finding that SOS is slower over the Internet than VSS, there could be some configuration issues. For instance, is real-time anti-virus protection running on the SOS Server machine? This can slow down SOS operations if the anti-virus software is checking every read/write.
How many projects/files in your "get?" How long does it take to retrieve them?
