Problem committing and operation with duplicated file

Post by bclubb » Tue May 27, 2008 4:44 pm

Item $/Clients/customer.xls caused the transaction to fail: The object could not be found. It may have been deleted, moved or renamed. How do I get this file back to where I can use it? It was duplicated and the duplicate was deleted. After that then this error began popping up with the original.

How was that file duplicated?

Does it fail if you try to just perform a Get on it?
Can any other user perform a Get on that file?

I'm not exactly sure how they did it, but I believe they added a file to the same folder with the same name. They mentioned doing a share and then changing the name.

The scenario when I came in was that there were two files with the same name in the same folder. One had 196 revisions the other had 1. I deleted the file with 1 revision and now I can't work on the file with 196 revisions.

Is it possible to undelete the file you had deleted? If so, after undeleting can you send me a screenshot showing the duplicate names? You can either post it here and remove it when we're finished or email it to support at sourcegear.com (attn: Beth) with a link to this thread.

I'm thinking it should give an error when you try to undelete claiming that there is a file with the same name present.

Can you rename the problematic file?

Actually it is all working fine now. Yesterday I was able to un-delete the file and then rename it. I still wasn't able to checkout the file with 196 revisions, but now I can and it seems that all is working.

Happy to hear you're working again.

What version of Vault are you on? I want to see if I can reproduce this.
